The Pineapple Diet for Weight Loss

Monday, October 5th, 2009
by Monty Dayton

The pineapple diet, which is also sometimes called the Metzger Pineapple Diet, is a hard eating plan to nail down because there are many imitations online that call themselves the same, but are unfounded plans. While this fad diet might seem really restrictive, there is no denying that there is a lot of interest around this particular weight loss plan.

While some versions may differ, every form of this eating plan in some way or another involves eating a lot of pineapple. Some say all pineapple and ice water for a few days in a row, others add in tuna every day. Many have a combination ” where there’s a day or two of nothing but pineapple and water, but tuna on the rest of the days to go with the pineapple.

The pineapple diet is definitely a fad diet and should be undergone carefully. That said, does this eating plan help people lose weight? For many people, the answer will be yes.

The pineapple & tuna version of this idea tends to especially be effective because tuna is a great lean meat high in Omega-3s, protein, and low in calories. This is a great balance to the pineapple, which delivers a great amount of energy for a fruit. This combination, along with ice water, can help to guarantee a diet low in both fat and salt. There are several concerns with this diet, however.

First, one of the largest concerns is sugar. Pineapple is a fruit that has a very high fructose (sugar) content. For diabetics who have to watch their insulin, this could become a major issue. Pineapple is also a very acidic fruit, which could make it unappealing for many different individuals.

A common second concern with the pineapple diet is lack of nutritional balance. While pineapple and tuna are both very healthy foods, you’re not going to get 100% of your daily vitamins from eating just that. A daily multi-vitamin is a very good idea.

Third, not all claims made about this weight loss plan have been proven. As with many fad diets, there’s the claim from diet proponents, and then many of them simply aren’t tested to be proved or disproved. This can be an issue for some people.

The pineapple diet might not be for everyone. But as far as fad diets go, this one actually does help dieters lose the weight they’re seeking to cut.

The Cayenne Pepper Diet – Detoxify Your Body And Lose Weight

Monday, August 24th, 2009
by Susan Wells

The Cayenne Pepper diet is a diet that is a cleansing diet and can eliminate years of toxin build up in the body. It also goes by the name of the maple syrup diet or lemonade diet. This is a very difficult diet as you basically don’t eat any food except for drinking lemonade for 10 days. However you can lose a lot of weight very quickly.

Cayenne pepper has a lot of health benefits and is known to help rid your body of toxins. The most important compound in the cayenne pepper is capsaicin. Besides capsaicin cayenne peppers also contain minerals, vitamins and antioxidants.

Some of the benefits of capsaicin include killing bacteria, germs, viruses and infections, increasing your metabolism, reducing platelet stickiness, boosting your immune system and helping to improve your blood circulation. For such a dangerously hot pepper it certainly helps your body.

The main toxins that the cayenne pepper diet can eliminate include heavy metals, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, prescription drugs, hormones and other congestion in the body. Most of these toxins are naturally eliminated through the liver, kidneys and other organs but a build up can occur.

When starting the Cayenne pepper diet you need to physically and mentally prepare yourself because it will be a rough 10 days of just drinking lemonade. Once you have made it through the first 10 days you move into the second phase of eating the cayenne pepper with either salt water or non caffeinated laxative tea. Then you move onto the post cleanse.

The first phase is simply getting you used to feeling hungry as you will. Then the second phase contains the lemonade you drink will consist of lemons, cayenne pepper power, distilled water and maple syrup. Once serving consists of 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 10 oz distilled water, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, and 1/10 teaspoon of cayenne powder.

While there are a few side effects to using the cayenne pepper diet they are mainly based around feeling hungry and detoxifying your body. Most individuals do suffer from hunger pangs and will have cravings that can be difficult to ignore and work through. If you normally drink a lot of caffeinated beverages then you may experience some caffeine withdrawal symptoms. Others feel a bit sore and itchy. This is due to your bodies getting rid of toxins in the system.

You should be warned that doctors and other health professionals do not recommend the cayenne pepper diet as the amount of calories you consume is far below what your body needs to function properly and you do not get any protein which your body needs. Additionally if you stay on the diet too long your stomach may stop passing food.

Whey Protein Supplements And Their Effects

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009
by Julie Poundsign

Milk is around 80% casein and around 20% whey protein. Whey protein is one of the leading dietary supplements for weight loss and muscle growth, and when concentrated, is very effective.

Whey protein, if its pure, will be free of most of the causes of milk allergies, as most of these are contained in the casein that is extracted during the purification process. Whey protein therefore can be a good dietary option for people with these kinds of allergies, however whey isn’t necessarily suitable for people who are completely lactose intolerant.

So we all know that whey protein can provide invaluable assistance when it comes to losing weight or gaining muscle, but is there such a thing as too much whey? Of course there is, but how much is too much? What are the side effects? Well, a lot of doctors would urge caution when using protein supplements because there are some unpleasant side effects, one is particularly not nice.

In fact, one of the most ironic things about whey protein is that your dieting and muscle building can result in you not being able to work out any more at all. If you develop gout, then this could be a risk you face.

Gout is a result of excess protein in your body that the body cant do anything with so it settles on your joints, muscles and tendons in your legs and feet (usually in your big toes first) as crystals of uric acid that cause joints to be stiff, brittle and painful.

Too much protein is also one of the main causes of kidney and liver damage, kidney stones are not uncommon in very high protein diets, but as long as common sense and patience are applied and you don’t go overboard with your supplements, then you should be alright. The right amount to take varies from person to person and the main deciding factor for the right amount to take is body mass. I recommend consulting with your doctor before you start out on supplements as he/she will be able to guide you as to the right amount to use based on your body mass.

So whey protein, we can conclude, is an effective source of protein for your body to lose unwanted fat or gain some lean muscle, but you should always do all the research you can before you start using supplements of any kind to make sure you wont be troubled by unwanted side-effects.

The Desired And Undesired Effects Of Using Whey Protein

Whey Protein comes from milk and makes up around 20% of its protein. The other 80% is called casein which is an ingredient in some other protein supplements. The whey must undergo several isolation processes to separate it from the milk itself.

In fact, one of the most ironic things about whey protein is that your dieting and muscle building can result in you not being able to work out any more at all. If you develop gout, then this could be a risk you face.

People develop gout when there is a build up of excess protein that crystallises itself as uric acid and settles usually in the joints of your big toes to start with, and then as the condition worsens it will spread up your feet and legs until all of the muscles, tendons and joints in them are stiff and painful to the point where you almost cant move them.

Too much protein is also one of the main causes of kidney and liver damage, kidney stones are not uncommon in very high protein diets, but as long as common sense and patience are applied and you don’t go overboard with your supplements, then you should be alright. So overall, using whey protein is an effective way of shedding unwanted fat, or gaining lean muscle, but its worth doing the research before hand to ensure that you don’t experience any undesired effects.

How To Use Dietary Supplements Effectively

Monday, June 8th, 2009
by Julie Poundsign

A good looking body is something that we all want, even if we wont admit it, but for those of us who are overweight or even underweight, it can be a challenge to even get started. Regular gym visits make very slow progress and when its hard to keep doing something that requires effort when you dont even see results.

People that feel they are too thin can have a frustrating time at the gym as everyone there seems to be bigger and you seem to be making no progress at all.

Overweight people have an even more of an ordeal to go through at the gym as it is far more difficult to lose weight than it is to gain weight, but surely there is a way to speed the process along?

Things like dieting supplements and protein shakes are things that we have all heard of, but probably dont know much about. A lot of people question whether they work or not, whether they will have side effects etc. and rightly so. The answer is; if theyre used properly, then they can work wonders for your body, but otherwise, the chances are they will not do much.

For the underweight people who are looking to gain some muscle, carbohydrates and whey protein supplements would be perfect. They will naturally help your muscles grow at a faster rate as long as you keep working out as well!

This will start to make a highly noticeable difference if you are drinking protein shakes as instructed by the particular brand you use. This is because the Whey protein that they usually contain (from experience Whey tends to be more effective than Creatine) can easily be turned into muscle by your body. However it will need an incentive to do so, i.e. regular pumping of the muscles so that they need to be repaired.

Unfortunately there is quite a bit more effort involved if you are overweight. The reason for this is that you cant turn fat cells straight into muscle, you have to burn the fat cells off first, then build muscle in its place. A supplement containing Sida Cordifolia would be ideal for this as it improves your metabolic rate, increasing the energy you used when doing anything, meaning fat cells burn off much quicker.

If you take this step to lose weight followed by the previously mentioned muscle gain steps, then realistically youre probably looking at around 8-10 months before your body starts taking shape, but if throughout this period you are active, with regular workouts and exercise, you could not only shorten that time frame, but you will end up fitter, healthier and generally felling better than you have in a long time.

A Detox Diet for Cellulite

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
by El Bilson

Cellulite is a condition that many women wish they didn’t have to deal with. A detox diet for cellulite is something that may help you get rid of ugly skin for good.

Interested in learning about a detox diet for cellulite? While there is no diet that will cure cellulite, following a detox diet can help reduce the problem. There are several detox diets that you can try and we will look at where to research those.

Wondering how a detox diet helps improve your skin? What does it mean to detox the body? This article is a good starting point for more information on detox diets and how they work. Before you start a detox diet it is important to check with your doctor. This is especially crucial if you have health problems or are on any medications.

Several organs in the body help clean toxins from the blood. The main detox organ is the liver. However other organs such as the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymph, and skin all play their part in cleaning the body. Our bodies are a miracle in that all the systems work together.

After many years of cleaning the body, the cleansing organs often contain built up toxins. These toxins hamper the functioning of the body’s organs. Cellulite can improve with a healthy diet. However you may want to start is by detoxifying your body through a good cleanse. After that you can choose low fat, high fiber foods that will continue to improve the functioning of the body.

Like most of us, you are no doubt eating foods that are high in fat and low in fiber. Its easy to do. My husband and I travel a lot and most of our meals are take out. Many people give into their cravings for french fries or pizza on a regular basis. But over time these foods and others like them cause the body to be loaded down with toxins.

These toxins put a lot of work on the liver and kidneys and the other detox organs. Going on a brief detox diet gives these organs a rest and allows them to clean the toxins from the body. Detoxifying the body allows these organs to play catch up on the work they are designed for.

Cellulite is the term used to describe the dimpled look that is found on the skin. As skin ages the connective tissue, called septa, in the subcutaneous layer of the skin loses its elasticity. When this happens, the fat deposits that are a normal part of the body push up between the septa. This is what causes cellulite to have a rippled or dimpled appearance.

By changing what we eat and drink, we can improve circulation to the septa. When blood circulation is improved, a reduction in cellulite can be achieved over time. Of course, this is a change in lifestyle. Permanent results require us to give up some of the foods we may enjoy. But the good news is that the healthy change in diet will not only improve the look of skin but will result in a healthier body overall.

There are a number of detox diet for cellulite to choose from. Visit your local library or bookstore or do a web search and you will find many methods to detoxify the body. Some of these detox diets include fasting. Others are liquid diets that include fresh fruit and vegetable juices. Whatever method you choose to detox, remember that you are giving your body a chance to rest. This will lead to not only improve cellulite, but improved health overall.
